One For Mom

I took this buck on November 13th during the 2002 archery season.  This old guy was chasing a doe around a field at nearly 150 yards away, but for some reason the doe lead this buck within 10 yards of my stand where the buck met its fate with a 125 Thunderhead.  The buck was 225 pounds plus with a main frame 10-point scoring 118 2/8 after deductions.

This one is for Mom "Billie Snow" who I lost in an automobile accident on July 23, 2001.  My mother and father, Terry Snow, were traveling to my grandmother's when they were struck head on by another vehicle.  My father was severely injured, both legs were shattered and there were several other life-threatening injuries that nearly took him away too.  My father, being not only my father, but my bowhunting buddy and fishing buddy, was devastated by our loss of Mom and had a long hard road to recovery.  Due to Dad's injuries he had lost all of his abilities to hunt with a compound bow and was forced to hunt with a crossbow during the 2001 season.  I would load Dad's wheelchair on the back of my 4-wheeler and set him up in a blind.  The last evening of the 2001 archery season before the 2001 rifle season my Dad and I decided to go watch this field that would be his hunting area for the opening morning of the 2001 rifle season.  We were sitting in a blind on the edge of the field, not really expecting to kill a deer, but just to check on how much deer activity there was in that area.  Around 4:30 p.m. I heard something hit the fence behind us.  As I turned to look I saw a nice 5-pointer actually jump the fence and my 4-wheeler and walk within 15 yards of our blind and just stand there broadside like a 3-D target.  Dad placed the crossbow over my shoulder for a rest and squeezed the trigger.  It was a perfect lung shot behind the front shoulder.  The buck then ran across the open field and collapsed at approximately 70 yards.  The odds of that buck actually jumping my 4-wheeler and walking within 15 yards of us in that very large field could only have been a blessing from above.   Considering what we had been through that year it had put tears in both of our eyes.

I believe that through prayer and our faith towards God, He has given us the gift to overcome all of life's problems that are thrown at us.  If you don't know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, now is the time.  He is the answer to all of life's problems.  I hope that this testimony may have touched your life.   Good luck hunting!
